“We are determined to achieve a change in behaviour and culture around violence. If we as a people REALLY want to stop violence, murder, abuse, then we have to start with our children. We must teach them useable methods to prevent violence. If they can practice these as they grow, then they should be better able to face difficult situations as adults. Behaviour change will take some years, and it starts with lessons now.”

There are several ways in which HIV and violence against women are connected. Women in abusive relationships may not feel comfortable asking their partner to use protection or even saying no to sex for fear of a violent response. Forced sex acts can also cause cuts, scrapes, or tears that make it easier for HIV to enter the body. All of these issues can put women at higher risk for HIV and make living with HIV more difficult.

“Teens Tackle Gender-Based Violence” is a collaborative effort of two (2) former Yale students and createfuturegood. Timiebi Souza-Okpofabri and Liana Ambrose-Murray of Yale University approached createfuturegood with the idea to explore Gender-Based Violence as it related to teenagers in Trinidad and Tobago. In the vein of the create awareness series of campaigns to bring awareness, education, and attention to various issues that affect children, createfuturegood collaborated with the students on this amazing project.
